OH MY LAMB: Xinjiang Food at Miss Ali

Miss Ali is everything you need from a Xinjiang restaurant: tasty meats, big sharing portions with liberal amounts of seasoning and reasonable prices.

The highlights of our tasting menu were definitely the lamb meat dishes (described below) and a stunning, crispy, addictive fried chicken with non-spicy deep fried red chilly chips.

Lamb skewers come at RMB 15 each, a mere 5 kuai extra compared to your regular street stall but double in size and lacking all the nasty fat and msg of the former.

The boiled lamb soup was arguably my favorite dish of the night. The meat was extremely tender and the rich broth and stewed vegetables carried a pleasant lamb flavor. For RMB 108 you get a very generous portion for at least two hungry carnivores.

The leg of lamb was also lip-smacking. Pre-order a day earlier as it needs marinating for a while. It’s then seasoned and cooked at high temperature for 1 hour. At RMB 488 it can satisfy the meat needs of a 4+ people group.

End your meal on a sweet note with their delicious Xinjiang yogurt bowl.

All in all, Miss Ali is probably the most exciting place I’ve been to in 2016 and I’m looking forward going back soon.
